For some time, my doctor has been giving me samples of the anti-depressant Cymbalta. And, thankfully, it's been working very very well for me. I just got my first prescription filled and about fell over at the price of it: $162 for a one month supply.
Why is it other countries can get their drugs cheaper than people in the US can? If other countries can negotiate with drug companies on prices, why doesn't the US do the same thing? Oh sure, I hear all about how drug companies have to do research and development and that is so expensive. I get that it takes a lot of trial and error to make one medicine reach the market. I get that handing out free samples is expensive.
But so are television commercials. And all the free lunches that drug reps give doctors to write scripts for their particular medication.
*hmmm* Maybe I need to have a stock ticker for various drug companies on this site...
